Artist Ged leaves his mark as 5,000 flock to another successful Dewsbury Canal Festival...

MORE than 5,000 people attended Dewsbury Canal Festival on Sunday – but artist Ged Walker certainly left his mark.
While families enjoyed a range of attractions – from the legendary boat-pull competition to boat trips and fairground rides – Ged got to work.
Ged transformed a graffiti-daubed wall into an eye-catching mural to help promote Dewsbury’s canal system.
The festival, held at the boat yard in Mill Street East, Savile Town, has grown every year.
Rebecca Dent, regeneration project officer for British Waterways North East, said the festival was a big success and added: “The waterways provide a fantastic environment for all the family and an event like this really shows how important the local waterways are to the people of Dewsbury.
“This annual festival is a great way to celebrate but we’re keen to keep up the momentum with plenty more things planned for this year including some angling and canoeing sessions at the beginning of August.”
Festival organiser Gordon Lambert, managing director of Calder Valley Marine, said he wanted to thank those who made the festival a success once again.
