Police 'parade' drug gang's 4x4...

A HIGH-powered £94,000 Range Rover seized from a drugs gang went on show in Dewsbury this week.
The powerful black 4x4 was taken away after a judge at Bradford Crown Court ruled it had been bought with ‘dirty’ money.
It was put on display in Market Place, Dewsbury, on Wednesday flanked by police officers out to prove that crime doesn’t always pay.
Police were promoting the Government’s “Why Should They?” campaign which turns assets seized from criminals into funds for local communities.
More than £5 million in cash was confiscated from criminals by police in West Yorkshire during the last financial year.
Other assets, including cars and homes worth £8.6 million, were also seized in the same period.
Cash is distributed by the police in small grants to local groups to fund special projects, trips or activities.
Insp Jenny Thompson, of Dewsbury police, said: “Some criminals will use the proceeds of their crimes to buy expensive items. By using this legislation we are able to take these luxuries away from criminals and give back to communities affected by crime.
“The act allows us to hit criminals where it hurts - in their wallets.
“We are able to seize cash, recover cars, houses and any other assets they may have.”
